Now available in an SAB edition, this 2010 cantata includes four brand-new choral pieces, two choral arrangements of familiar Christmas hymns, and narrated piano solos that shine new light on some old tunes.
Borrowing an old text from Benjamin Keach, Awake, My Soul, Awake, My Tongue is a beautiful Christmas hymn in a minor key. The unusual harmonies, though initially difficult, are both powerful and memorable. The song was conceived previously and then arranged as a part of the 2010 Christmas cantata Come and Behold Him. This standalone version contains different measure numbering from the original cantata score.
Completed in March, 2007, this solo arrangement features beautiful piano harmonies underscoring the well-known Silesian hymn melody. Nathan Howe arranged this work for use at a conference of missionaries in Denver, Colorado.
The lovely text Crown after Cross was written by Frances R. Havergal and first published in 1879. The commonly used Christian tune for this hymn is an upbeat setting by Barney E. Warren and includes a refrain not originally published with Havergal’s text. This new melody by Nathan Howe takes a more reverent approach.
