Strong as Death
A contemporary a cappella setting of two classic fragments of text from Song of Solomon and Shakespeare, “Strong as Death” is a poignant declaration of true love. With frequent but natural modulations, this piece offers a rich texture with only a brief divisi section. It is suitable for ensembles as small as 8, but ideal for choirs of 16 or more. Come, Come, Ye Saints
Come, Come, Ye Saints is a classic American folk hymn written as the Mormon pioneers journeyed West. This modern setting of the text evokes the hardships and joys of early pioneers. With its refrain of ”All is well, all is well!” this piece is ultimately triumphant and optimistic. The piano part is challenging and beautiful.
This setting was written for Glenn Gordon’s Reflections on Come, Come, Ye Saints project. The original version for baritone solo with SATB choir and piano was premiered by the Melbourne Chamber Choir in 2009. A solo baritone art song version was added in 2015. Both are available through MusicSpoke.
Every Child of God [SSA or Double Choir SATB/SSA]
Every Child of God was written for the 20th anniversary of the Greeley Children’s Chorale. The piece features a beautiful piano part, a partner-song style chorus of Alleluias, and a culminating canonical passage on the text, “”Let all my work be praise.”
Every Child of God was originally written for and performed by a double choir – an adult SA(T)B choir and a children’s SSA choir. The double choir version is available, as well as a version for SSA treble choir alone.
Although God is mentioned in the title, the text is not overtly religious. This piece is appropriate for sacred or secular performance settings.
