Strong as Death

StrongAsDeath

A contemporary a cappella setting of two classic fragments of text from Song of Solomon and Shakespeare, “Strong as Death” is a poignant declaration of true love. With frequent but natural modulations, this piece offers a rich texture with only a brief divisi section. It is suitable for ensembles as small as 8, but ideal for choirs of 16 or more.  Sheet music (along with a full score preview) is available through MusicSpoke.

Come, Come, Ye Saints is a classic American folk hymn written as the Mormon pioneers journeyed West. This modern setting of the text evokes the hardships and joys of early pioneers. With its refrain of ”All is well, all is well!” this piece is ultimately triumphant and optimistic. The piano part is challenging and beautiful.

This setting was written for Glenn Gordon’s Reflections on Come, Come, Ye Saints project. The original version for baritone solo with SATB choir and piano was premiered by the Melbourne Chamber Choir in 2009. A solo baritone art song version was added in 2015. Both are available through MusicSpoke.
